Inside the Front Page

September 1st, 2004

After months of planning, organizing and editing: I’ve famously left this letter to the last minute.

Last night, I was driving home after I had seen the cover for the first time and was reminded of why I wanted to start this publication. The designer, Frank Kozik has graciously lent his helping hand and I hope that I am able to do the same for the writers that I publish. While in the last couple of weeks I’ve bounced between nervousness, excitement and panic; the night before printing, I am elated.

Many successful writers started their careers by selling their short stories to magazines. Thumbing through those same magazines now, many of the slots for short stories are being replaced with advertisements. Unfortunately, the opportunities for displaying creative writing are slimming down.

As everyone knows, getting your foot in the door can be difficult. With writers, trying to get your work published becomes another full-time hobby itself. Self-publishing is becoming a common theme in the industry magazines that I so dutifully subscribe to; while this sounds like a glorious thing, most writers would never have the means to do this. I wanted to create another avenue for them.

So here we are.

I hope this publication will serve the writers and readers well. Enjoy.

X,
Amy
