Parents at Parties
by Rocco Lungariello
We’re older now, liquor store trips
no different than supermarkets.
A dozen beers are a dozen eggs.
People in line are now alcoholics in dirty jeans.
You don’t grab for your ID, twenty dollars
only takes you so far.
Now you stare at the girl behind the register,
you like her hair, think your girl would look
good in it.
Kegs are mountains you wouldn’t dare
move alone. Parties are themed, this time
for Halloween. The candy wrappers match
the streamers, your friends bring gifts.
And we party with our parents,
pour drinks, damn near peers.
