...Erin
Shafkind grew up in LA in a very creative
household. Earning a BA in Studio Art
and a teaching credential brought her
to Seattle in 1997. She has been teaching
art full-time in Seattle Public Schools
since 1998. Working in a variety of media
from photography to printmaking, ceramics
to plush and more, she is usually producing
and sharing her creations. Generally her
themes revolve around whimsy, mystery,
memory, illusion, dreams and sorrow. She
has shown her work in Seattle at Secluded
Alley Works, Blue Bottle Gallery, Victrola
Coffee and Art, and various other locations.
She has also shown in photo competitions
at the Photographic Center Northwest,
and had the honor to participate in the
Contemporary Northwest Women in Photography
exhibit at the Frye Art Museum in 2003.
Keep an eye out for her photography in
the newly remodeled Vance Hotel later
this Summer, it will be renamed Hotel
Max.
...Between
teaching and making art she finds time
to write and hang out with one of her
creations; a special doll named Little
Roy. Occasionally the two can be seen
together on photo shoots or gallivanting
around on snow days. Find out more about
him and Erin’s other artwork online:
